Dity, posted up on getting a stand stolen.

How many people "TAG" their stands?

I haven't tagged any of my stands before. Most of my stands are close to home and they have the benefit of very little pressure...plus I'm friends with the neighbors on all sides. I've been fortunate and have never had a stand stolen. I did have a stand get messed up a few years ago and I'm sure it was coon hunters. (I sat there in the evening, and when I went back in the morning my bow rope was cut and three screw-in steps were stolen...plus there were three skinned coons about 30 yds to the west of the stand.)

Well I have a stand or two in some higher-profile places this year and one is a little further from home than normal, on some new land that I secured this year. I know some other guys have hunted there in the past and luckily I know and get along with them.

I decided to tag this particular stand b/c if for some reason somebody happens by the stand and wonders WTF, then they can see it's mine and hopefully they'll respect it.

I know this doesn't always work, but am fairly confident that it will work in my situation b/c I don't know if the "other-guys" know that I'm hunting there this year.

Isn't taggin a requirement for public ground?...kind of like tagging traps or ditty-poles and trot-lines.
