Well I filled my anysex muzzy tag last night at about 4:50. I got out to my spot at around 4 which is quite a bit later than I wanted to be. Sitting on the south edge of a crp field overlooking a corn field with a creek and lots of tightly bunched trees along the opposite edge. Not sure what kind of trees they are, but the deer like to bed in them especially on bad weather days. I sat until about 4:45 and hadn't seen a thing so I decided to sneak up over a hill to the east of me to check out a brushy spot where I thought some deer might be bedded. I stood up and started walking east. I went probably 10 feet and glanced back towards the trees to the south and sure enough here comes a buck running right towards me through the corn field. I could tell he was a nice buck but could never get a real good look at him because he was on a mission to get somewhere. And as you likely know, judging a buck in a corn field is tough, moving or not. Anyway, I got back to my spot and got down into a prone position and he came through at about 60 yards. I yelled and he stopped, BANG, quartering to shot, he turned and ran hard straight south across the corn field. There is a fenceline dividing two cornfields right there and about 30 yards before he got to the fence I could see that he was laboring really hard and then he just nailed that fence HARD and flipped over it and was done. I thought for sure with the reports of bucks shedding that he would have lost both sides upon hitting that fence, but they stayed intact. I went up to him, and he's not what I thought he was (rack size), but a real old deer though, probably on his downhill slide so I am very happy with it! Left G2 is broke off completely and right G2 probably lost 2 inches off the top. The shot was great, hit right in front of his left shoulder and blew right through his heart!
My cousin also got a doe last night so here's his pic.
