grunt calls

Lost my lucky grunt call and ended up buying a HS True Talker... anyone have any luck with them? Thus far I'm not overly impressed with the sounds it makes, but I'll listen to what others have to say before I decide if I'm going to take it back.

I've had my True Talker for a couple of years now and love it. I have had more success grunting in bucks with this grunt call then any of the other ones that I own.

A few friends of mine use the true talker. Good call IMO. Try the Primos Buck Roar, I just picked one up and they make a good grunt and the snort wheeze is right there also.

I agree 100% my True Talker and the rest are going in the trash Primos made a great grunt call with the "Roar"

watch the dvd that comes with the primos "roar"call and you'll buy one!i can't wait to to try it on a wallhanger!i've had good success calling and decoying in the past but this call is a whole new deal.

My True Talker doesnt get much use because I dont think it has enough volume. I went back to using my old stand-by, dont know what it is because I have long since worn the name off of it.
It must be broke though. I was messing with a 2.5 yr old buck that bedded down 25 yards away this morning. Wouldnt even turn his head to look at it.

Back on the call situation. Just bought the Buck Roar from Primos and definitely a awesome grunt call, get that loud grunt for distance calls without the high pitch duck call you get when you grunt real hard in a standard call.

I agree too. I haven't used the actual Roar or the Snort Wheeze this year yet but you can make an awsome lower grunt with the black tube on. It also makes an even better young buck grunt with the black tubing off. I rattled in a 2 1/2 year old this weekend and he bedded down 60 yards behind me. I had a video camera with me and wanted to have some fun. I took the black part off and did several short grunts to sound like a young deer. The buck stood up and within 3 minutes was sniffing the ladder of my ladder stand. I think it is the best grunt I have ever used, 100%!!!!!

I like the true talker, can get the nice younger sounding grunts as well as deep loud ones if you play with the bands a bit. I have only had it for a year but did kill my buck after rattling and grunting him in once he was within 50 yards.

I personally like the true talker the only problem that I had with it was that the wooden tone board kept coming out. A little super glue took care of that though. I think that it is the most realistic call that I have used although I haven't heard this new Primos call.

I've always liked the true talker. I have grunted a few deer in with it and know what you mean about it being kinda quiet. I have not tried this new Primos call and from the sounds of things it is a pretty good one so who knows.

I bought the buck growl and the buck roar. They are both excellent sounding grunt calls, but I can't get either one one them to sound like the roar/growl. At least not like the actual deer they have on footage.

I did have some fun with a couple fork horn bucks tonight. I grunted a few times with the Primos, and they came right in. They would wander away and I would give them a snort/wheeze. They would come running right back in. I did this a couple of times until they got tired of playing my games.

I froze my HS True Talker. Once you freeze a grunt call up it seems the reed gets weak. And thats what seemed to happen to mine. I had used it for 3 seasons and after I froze it up during a Christmas vacation bowhunt the temp was running between 0 and -10 and I was using it pretty heavily to keep deer cruising along my edge of the field. Once I stopped using it for the evening the steam from my breath froze the reed to wood. And I went to grunt one time right at dark and it was froze solid. Couldnt do anything about it at that point.

I bought the MAD Calls Growler. Good call, havent tried the "growl/roar" on a deer yet. My only complaint is that it is too deep. You can adjust the tone a LITTLE bit but it is tough to have a soft/high pitched grunt "small buck imitation" But it has good tone for the deeper grunts and extremely easy to blow.

I may invest in a True Talker for next year.

Tru Talker is an awesome call. You can make the growl on your tru-talker as well. You just hold on the young buck grunt blow fairly hard the let up at the end it sounds good after some practice.

I'm not crazy about the Tru Talker. I got the bands set where I want them but with gloves on or if buck fever sets in, I can't hit the right note sometimes. Also, I have to agree with what was said earlier about them freezing up, because mine froze last year it sounded real bad ever since.

I second the Rod Benson. The one I have was given to me as a xmas gift close to 15 yrs ago,I would almost rather leave my bow at home!
