Gun Smithing

I am needing to get my bird barrel re-blued. Does anyone know if this is something I can do myself and still get the same quality a gun smith would do. If so, any recommendations on materials? Thanks in advance!

I did my buddys Rem model 700 about 15 years ago. I did an awesome job & it still looks great. But , after that experience I won't do another unless it's my own. About all I remember is the metal needed to be warm, super clean, it was messy & I stained a countertop.
I used a Caseys bluing kit. Now they have way better stuff that is a lot less messy & far easier to use. Look at Brownells website.
