Sorry to hear about your loss Camo. Loosing a dog is a very sad experience, my parents had to put down our 10 yr. old Brittany the last week of May, she had a rough last year developing cancer in her front leg and it eventually spread into her intestine. Sucks to lose a dog, but keep your head up and remember all the great times you had with your dog.

Sorry for your loss.
We have always had hunting beagles and the bond hunters and their families develop with their dogs is incredible. We have a ritual when one of the pack is lost, we hunt the area where that dog is buried. Kind of corny but needless to say, I understand.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My brit will be 12 this fall and I can't even begin to think about losing my friend.

Thanks for everyones kind words and support. It will be a tough couple of days but we will get thru it. We have 2 other dogs and I think they are missing Ruger also.. Thanks again....

tflogel.. Please do not put your dog down untill the last very moment. That is something that you can never take back.. We thought about doing the same but as long as he could get around and was not in to much pain we were going to let him live as long as he could. We were always ready to make that call when there was no other option.. Just don't want you to make that call to soon...

Ruger is chasin birds right now... Sorry to hear about your loss. With my lab approaching 11 I don't want to think about what will eventually happen.
 
Sorry to hear about your loss, it sure is tough. I've buried a few and none have been easy. Hopefully all the good memories will soon overshadow the sorrow.
 
You will always find the way to remember him. He will be reincarnated (spelling) in some way to you. Maybe be small but he will be back in his own little way.
 
None of you know my real name it is Martin, I always used my dogs name as a alias for fun!! He was 14 and five days when he passed!! His name was KOBA i feel your pain. Justget through the days!!
 
You have my deepest sympathies. I'm sure you had 15 yrs of great memories with a true friend, that was happy to see you always, and never wanted anything in return.
 
Very sorry about your loss. I remember when my parents put down my shorthair. It was a Tuesday before Thanksgiving 3 years ago. I was fresh out of college and lived in an apartment that didn't allow dogs. I had to leave work b/c I was so broken up. I know how you feel.

It is amazing the types of bonds that humans and dogs have. There are days that I am so frustrated from work, that when I get home and my new pup jumps in my arms every thing that went bad that day doesn't matter.

Cherish the good times. Laugh about the frustrating times. And never forget how a dog changed your life.

Very Sad! I hate to think about losing mine. They sure become part of your family!
 
Sorry to hear that. We have three labs and out oldest is 9 and we just brought him out to my grandma's farm to live out his last few years in a nice place where he can just lounge around. Pets really become part of our life and it is hard when they are gone.
 
I'm truly sorry for your loss, Mark. I can remember each of the seven brittanys we had when I was growing up just like it was yesterday. You will hunt with him again someday and you can bet you'll bag a limit. Again, I'm sorry to hear about Ruger's passing.

Camoup - Your point is well taken. I have been pondering it for over a year as her healthy slips. Even if i wanted to today my wife and 3 little ones would bury me first!!!

I'm very sorry to hear about Ruger.
I buried my first lab in December of '96. The ground was half frozen but that was not the hard part.
Her replacement is now 10, but I still miss that dog.
