Hanging deer in the garage/barn/shop....

What kind of contraptions do all you tool guys have to hang deer in your garage/barn/shop etc? Pulleys/boat cranks/meat poles/cables/ropes, that type of thing. How about hanging multiple deer on one set up? Just looking for ideas before I start this project in my garage. Anybody have any pictures of what they use?
 
Call me a hick but we just use ropes over the rafters tied off to a bench vice
 
I'd like to do that, but my ceilings are finished, so I need some kind of pulley system. That would be too easy!

Do you have access to the attic above? If so how about a 4x4 across a couple trusses and an eyebolt through the ceiling. Then a hand crank winch attached to the wall. Use a "D" ring to attach the cable and the eye bolt. Timber Pig has this set up and it works very well.
 
Weld 3 pieces of rebar together, form a triangle and hang them by the hocks.

On that subject, is it legal to hang a properly tagged deer in DesMoines?

Come-along, just hooked on some ropes that are tied around the rafters, quite an ugly set-up actually.
 
We have a pulley in the rafters with a manuel winch. If it is a big boy then we use the atv to pull him up!

Great idea...yes I have access to the rafters. Found this at Cabelas...

Anchoring it to the celing is the key. Have an eye bolt on the wall, use the wheeler to pull him up, attach the D ring to the eye bolt and it should work. I really like the boat winch/crank idea also. Mount that on the wall, hook it up to the rope on the pulley and it should be a snap huh?

Anybody used the set up in the Cabelas link?
 
we have pipes between branches in the pine trees in the yard. maybe i'll put some pictures up this year
 
What I've done is cut a small hole through the drywall on either side of a joist and pulled a small chain through and around the joist connecting it as shown. Use a couple of pulley’s and it’s finished. With the pulleys configured like the post from Cabela's, I can pull up a good sized deer myself. When it's not in use, the pulley and ropes are tucked away.

I have attached my set up that I put quite a bit of thought into. We can hang 3 deer at a time and work right to left. 12foot countertop, 5 foot cutting block (for when you are cutting like a mad man and don't want to cut up your countertops), beer fridge (located conviently in the middle of the operation), deep chest freezer, another 5 foot counter top next to a utility sink with a soap dispenser and roll out towel dispenser. I also included a pic of how we attached three eyo bolts to hte ceiling. Annd yeah I know hte garage is a mess right now, but will be getting cleaned up reeal soon her before opener.

Are those eye bolts screwed right into that 2 x 10 or whatever that is? Is there every any doubt that they will pull out of the wood with the weight of a big ol fat buck? I only plan on shooting 250+ pounders so I'd like some extra reinforcement. Right.

Seriously, for those of you screwing the eye bolt directly into the joist you don't worry about it stripping out with a load hanging from it? If not, great...that's how I'm doing it. That seems easier than securing a 4 x 4 up in my rafters and running an eye bolt down through the dry wall.

I like the chain idea in one of the previous posts also. That would be an easy fix. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Any more? Keep em coming!

It's one of my weekend projects for this weekend...I'll post pics when I get it done.
 
We use cherry pickers. They will hold 3 deer apiece. They do take up a little space in the off season.
 
With a cheap pulley setup like this you can pull the deer up and it hang on the pully or hook them to the outside bolts with what ever work and move to your next set to hang the next deer. I believe these bolts are rated at 350lbs each
