Harvesting Antlerless deer?

Many bow hunters like to fill their freeze with antlerless deer early in the season prior to the rut. I assume the thinking is they don't want to be shooting the does during the seeking/chasing phase of the rut, or during the peak of the rut.

Shooting does in the evening during warm weather has always been a problem for me during the work week. I don't have access to a walk in cooler; therefore I need to process the carcass immediately. On my days off evening hunts aren't a problem since I don't have to get up at 4:00 a.m. and get ready for work.

However, I prefer to harvest my antlerless deer in the mornings. That way I have most of the day to process the animal or get it to a meat processing facility. Unfortunately many lockers aren't open to receiving the meat on Sundays.

I like to take them when its cold. Preferably late bow season. But if its a cool night in early season, I'll take one if it wanders by too close.

I like to take them around the first week or two. I have a buddy that has a walk-in cooler and the spots I've bowhunted have never been really good for bucks until the rut anyways. I wont shoot one anytime..specifically during the rut. Might be shooting a doe that's going to come into heat in a couple days that would turn the area into a sex-crazed mad-house for bucks. It would be my luck that I would shoot a doe during the rut and not see the monster that's trailing her until he turns around and gives me a flash of the white tail. Ever see the painting "Ladies First"?
I like to try to shoot a lot of does ,however, during slug season.

i'll shoot them anytime one gives me a good oppurtunity i usually shoot 4 does & 2 bucks every year

I'll shoot them anytime except during the rut in hopes there's a big one following her. I love the early and late doe season. Usually get about 8 anterless tags total, two for each season.

I don't bow hunt, so it isn't a issue for for me during the Oct. time frame. After I start, a mature doe is in grave danger if she gets too close  I too get a hand full of doe tags and donate much of the meat.
I'd much rather put a mature doe down then a small buck.

Blow thru'em... They are like rats. Buy A crap load of cheap arrows and start waxn them. too much meat ya say... great for yotes and dog food

As far as I'm concerned we should attemp to harvest at least one doe every season we hunt where the deer numbers are good. With the HUSH program there is no reason to quit hunting just because the freezer is full at home. We hunters need to focus on the does as much as the bucks, if not more. If we don't do our jobs, politicians will try....and you know what that means. :thrwrck:
