Been hanging around this forum for a long time, just don't post much. I know there are some real experencied guys on here and was just wanting a second opinion.
Just taking a quick look at the area, if you had to guess do you think the red dot would be a place to spend considerable time come the rut? I use a Alpha, so I will change set up to adjust for wind direction. This is my first year on this property, it hasn’t been hunted and I’m the only person with permission. Here are some quick facts:
Ø All the brush to the west is un-hunted and I’m unable to gain permission at this time. The entire quarter is nothing but brush, it has been allowed to grow up and there are no cattle. When setting the crop edges that border this I routinely see 20 plus deer and have seen my fair share of shooters. Plenty of trail cam pics also. So I know there are big deer in the area.
Ø The land to the east is bowhunting only and amounts to 1000+ acres of huntable land, sees some pressure, but limited.
Ø Within about 100 to 150 yards east of my stand placement I will start bumping does out of beds.
Ø I have seen multiple large bucks cross the road, and have multiple reports from farmers and land owner seeing nice deer cross this area. This is the only property that connects these two properties.
I know there several families of does bedding on both of these properties, meaning there should be some bucks cruising back and forth looking for hot does. I have other properties to hunt, but this area holds the best chance of shooting a 4 ½ year old or older buck. I know I would be sitting close to the road but I feel the farther in I go the more access becomes an issue, plus the timber continues to get wider.
Here a few bucks running this area, these pics are from last year and this year so far.
This one is blurry because I took it with my camera looking through my spotting scope and he was 1/4 mile away. He was only 40 or 50 yards from one of my stands.
