I hit a good 8pt tonight. I thought it was a good hit but he never went down. I hit him about 4 inches behind the front leg and 4 to 5 inches from the bottom of his chest. My stand is about 15ft in the air but he was on a side hill so I would say I was 7-8ft above him. After the shot he ran for 25yds and stopped, I thought he was going to go down right then. He stood there for around 10-15 mins and slowly walked off. He stopped further away for another 5-10 mins then slowly walked off again, then I lost sight of him. Not much blood on the arrow, and the blood I did find was pinkish red? I followed it for around 50 yrds and it was getting pretty slim. Do you think it was a good shot or is he still going? I'm going out in the morning to look some more. Just wanted some advice about the hit?

This is just a guess, but I would say you might of only got one lung. Shouldn't of been a steep angle on your shot, but if you watched him for 20 minutes it wasn't a solid double lunger. You might have passed through the first side and then out the brisket below without damaging the other lung much. It's also possible that you hit a little lower than you thought and didn't catch much of anything on either side. Regardless, you did the right thing by not following it tonight. Take up the trail again in the morning and see where it takes you. Take some toilet paper with you to mark last blood. Good luck with it, hope you find him.

I agree with Critrgitr. Subtract hair, fat layer, and the brisket, and 4 inches is none too high. I would guess you might have sliced the bottom of one lung, which would make for a tough recovery. Only one way to find out, hit the trail in the morning. I hope you find him.
