The nightmare that is deer season continues.:D Geez, first of a great morning to be in the woods even though the wind was howling. Deer were running, bucks were chasing, just dinks though.

First of all, i am hunting an 111 acre woods in the middle of corn fields that are a mile or farther from water. well anyhow with it still being early and me being greedy, a doe stepped out with her fawn and a scrub on her tail at 25 yards. I took the shot and made a slam dunk of all gut shots. I yanked it bad. But anyhow I hit her right in the guts, She took it and slowly walked off, her fawn bailed.

she headed into a bedding area and 2 minutes later a saw the fawn come back to an area about 40 yards down the trail, it seemed like the doe bed down. I can either go look for her at 3 or wait until the morning, I have a night class tonight.

I was shooting spitfires out of my spitfire. whats your opinion, I have never gut shot a deer and dont know how to handle this, I did get right out of there, I didn't see my arrow around either but it atleast went through to the fletching because it wasnt sticking out. Thanks guys

Gut shots can take some time. You might be OK by 3 p.m. today to go look. If you don't find her in a bed near where you last saw her, starting looking for the nearest water source. Good luck with the recovery effort. You owe it to the deer.

the thing is there is no way for her to get to water. its over a mile away through combined corn.

I might go and check sign at 3:00 and see if there is good blood or not and check where you think she held up. If there isn't much sign I might wait until tomorrow. I agree with the old saying when in doubt back out.
