Found this one last tuesday...conditions were right so I decided to let it grow. Picked it last night. It went from around hand-sized last tuesday to this

I didn't get an official weight, but 10lbs plus is a safe bet. Best part is it spawned a friend that I'm going to go back for tomorrow night after work.

saw them , but never touched them . what are they and how do you cook them. looks like alot of fungus

Goats Beard?

Yes some call them goat's beard.

There are several ways to cook them and some pickle them. I like them pan fried with butter and a bit of onion and put that over top of a nice steak. They're really good in an omelet too. You can cook them just like a morel, breaded and fried.

Basically you use it anyway you would a can of shrooms.

IMO they're way better than morels.

I have a lot of happy neighbors and co-workers now :drink1:

agree that they are right up there with morels, probably better than morels when it comes to using them in recipes. They freeze good too. One certainly goes a long ways
