Homebrews

Re: Homebrews - anyone building?

I couldn't get the site to come up earlier but it did just work a few minutes ago. If a guy could figure out the right O-ring diameter...

Re: Homebrews - anyone building?

How are most of you putting in your shutter glass?

I am going to try and recess my shutter glass on the next one.
I am assuming that I put the recess on the inside just in case there is any leakage and to put the goop around the edge and just press the glass in?

What is the best way to take the goop off of the glass?

Thanks for the input.

Re: Homebrews - anyone building?

I just put the glass on the backside although I've always thought a recessed fit would look nice. If rear mounted, apply a bead of Goop around the hole, no need to get too carried away, then lay on the glass and press down firmly but not to the point you squeeze all the Goop out. I also take extra Goop after that and apply it all around the edge of the glass on the backside to make sure it's 100% watertight. Then scrape any thick residue of Goop (if any) off the front of the glass without trying to get it perfectly clean. Let it dry for a day and any remaining Goop can easily be removed from glass with an exacto knife, etc.

Re: Homebrews - anyone building?

I do not recess mine, just glue it to the backside. to remove excess goop I usually just take a scalpel and cut around the outer edge of the glass, that cuts the excess goop away form the goop that is holding the glass in place. It is also best to put some goop on the inside like Iowabowtech said, just to ensure yourself that it is very well sealed.
