Homemade climbing sticks

Tree stands and gear for tree stands would require liability insurance in my opinion
(I own an insurance agency).

There was a local guy who sued one of his best friends over a tree stand fall and it was over $100,000. You can go without, but in my opinion you would be taking on a risk.

Is it hard to get and expensive?

I'll try to have someone post a pic for me. Mine look very similar but the tree brackets are bolted on and pivot to fit on awkward trees. Kind of the way line wolf/muddy sticks pivot.
Good lookin sticks. I make them in 3 and five foot sections to mix and match depending on what may be needed for each individual tree

I like that idea, I am a fan of that option as I have a set of muddy sticks that are great. I have not come up with a solid, quiet way to do it. For me I want them quiet and strong. They are slightly heavier but I don't move them all that often. Not really a hang and hunt system, but I hate the long sticks that sit on the ground, I have some and they never fit the tree right.

What if you provide welding services only? They supply the idea and material (including straps and connectors), you just weld together how they want, making no claim as to the strength/durability or use for climbing. They can then do as they please with the metal configuration created.

Interesting thought, I imagine any welding shop would make mine if I had a plan. I am sure they weld up grates and things that are potentially dangerous

I work in a weld shop and there are a handful of things that we can't do for liability reasons. I don't know the details on the insurance that we have to carry but I'm sure it's a serious investment just in case something were to come back in the form of a legal issue. We do everything under the sun and would be liable in certain cases of weld failure.
Treestands/ sticks would more than likely fall into user error.
I've seen a few suspects welds on commercially made stands and sticks but for what they cost that can be expected

Great looking design for sure. Looks durable.
I wanted to add something about the liability issue. You could sell a set of sticks to your brother knowing he would never take you to court if there was an issue but the insurance company won't give two sh*ts. For personal injury they want a root cause of the event. If that root cause has anything to do with your ladder stick then in their eyes you are liable and they are not required to cover any medical expenses. This very thing has happened many times over in different scenarios. As for the liability waiver, I think that just covers your butt with the buyer and not his/her ins company. I'm not an attorney, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. GO HAWKS!
