Hot Zone Fences

Do any of you guys use any fences to keep deer out of your food plots prior to gun seasons? I hunt a farm that I plant 4 acres of turnips on. By late Muzzleloader they have it pretty well picked over and it seems like the bucks relocate to a different farm that has grain on it. What is your experience with these fences for the guys that use them and how soon do you take them down before late season? Do they actually keep the deer out?

I have all of the gear to make an e-fence big enough to enclose about 2 acres, although I have only ever set it all up and used it one time. That would have been 2 years ago when I put it around a soybean plot on my farm. Overall, it worked well, I certainly had a good crop of beans inside that fence and I didn't really have trouble with maintaining the fence up until early November that year. From what I could tell, 99% of the deer were blocked from the fenced off area...up until early November, that is.

Then, it seemed as though every time I checked it had been compromised in one or two areas. I attributed that to the fact the rut was starting up and once bucks start chasing does around, and in the dark too, they would run into the fence accidentally and booger it. So although I had planned on leaving the fence up until for another month or so, I took it down in early November and left it down.

I'll do it again I'm sure, but who knows when. :)
