How common is this?

I get a text yesterday...BBD, 165 plus. So naturally I call him to hear the story and the last thing the hunter tells me is that it shed out when it hit the ground. Is this the norm or is it still fairly rare? This is the 3rd or 4th buck besides the one SWBUCKHNTR posted here that I've heard about plus quite a few sheds found. I'm heading out next week for a last chance buck and would appreciate your thoughts.

couple years ago, a buddy shot a buck, and when they went to load it in the truck, both sides popped off in his hands.

shedding time is right now, so it is going to happen. just like does coming in heat, it doesn't happen over night, or all on the same day.

Happened to me opening day of late muzzleloader...shot a 140" 8pt, when he rolled the one side popped off..

I shot one years ago in early December that was already shed. Too bad they popped off when he hit the ground. Easily fixed by a taxi though.

I will never understand why guys drag their deer by the antlers. Antlers are made to come off. Approximately anytime from the end of November those antlers are coming off.

Watch the newest Whitetail Freaks video and watch Randy Birdsong's January hunt.... The antler pops off of the HUGE 8 point as he's trying to move into better position for recovery speech... I didn't expect it at all and his reaction is priceless..

I had 2 target bucks that i was going after this year late muzz. Both had there horns on 12/28. And now both only have 1 side. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
