how do you pass the time?

With many hunters reporting slow daytime activity this year, I was wondering what some of you do to pass the time on all day sits. I sat many days this year without seeing a deer for 8 or 9 hrs at a time. That can begin to wear on a person mentally. One thing I do, I subscribe to Readers Digest but dont open any of them until deer season when I will take one a day for all day sits. When deer activity is high, I may not even break em out, but this year, I read a lot

Id like to hear what some others have come up with to help pass the time on those long days in the woods.

I just sit and enjoy being away from everything else.

I have heard people read books and the what not but I just sit and watch nature go by.

Maybe I should take my PDA out and record what is going on.

I will be interested to see who says what about this.

Well after thinking about it i feel sorry for the tree that i hunt by. I have pealed all the bark off of it right behind the stand.. And have tore about half of the evergreen branches off. make myself some rope. Then when i get mad at the squirrels i just somewhat throw pieces of bark at them. They usually know how far i can throw. I have also shot at them with my bow. But they stay in the thick stuff most of the time! They are quick learners. One chewed me out yesterday night. He was sitting on a knot on the tree looking at me. Doing his little chuckel. Ill get him some day!!

If Im out just for a morning or evening hunt I just sit and wait. On all day hunts I sometimes bring one of those little video poker games and just turn the sound off.

How do you pass the time you ask?
If anyone out there is like me, screw-up early into the hunt then you have hours to sit and stew about it. Last Friday I made a bone head move on a nice buck at 11:30. So from then until dark thirty I could day dream about what might have been!

Well I day dream about winning it big and what property I would bye and what I would do with it. And building a new house and putting a car wash at the house so the wife can not make up reasons why she never washes the SUV. Sounds stupid but thats what I do LOL.

I watch nature. I saw everything from chickadees to bald eagles, chipmunks to raccoons. And if I ever start feeling the least bit bored, I say to myself, "You could be sitting at work", and things are suddenly exciting all over again

For the first time this year I did some reading. Boy did I feel guilty. I was sure I would get busted and I had a hard time concentrating on the book I was reading. I was always looking around, thinking about how I would put the book dawn and get my bow ready, etc. I keep thinking that I wait all year for a couple weeks of prime time, and it often comes down to a few seconds where everything has to go right.

Just couldn't do it.

By the way I saw a TV show where Michael Waddell was playing a handheld electronic Yahtzee game on stand.

I usually sing the last song I heard on the radio in my head a million times while watching nature....when I get sick of singing I usually think of things that I could be doing to the area I'm staring at for food plots cutting trees etc.

I surf the internet on my phone

Unless it is windy then I get motion sickness reading and tree moving

Then I sit and sing songs in my head

Pretty much the same as JNR, watching nature, thinking deep thoughts and solving world problems in my head, daydreaming and listening to songs and sometimes the voices in my head.

If I get bored, I just think about how blessed I am to be sitting in a tree hunting in Iowa - the greatest whitetail state in the greatest country in the world and how many hunters wish they could be where I am right now.

I usually do one of two things. I text message my hunting partner to see how he's doing and I daydream a lot (mostly about girls). The other day I started to feel sorry for the bucks because they can only rut for one month out of the year but we can rut all year long. Yeah we've got it good like Kat said. Enjoy your time outdoors as it's the only time you can truely get away from it all.

I spend alot of time peering thru binos, thinking, eating M&Ms one at a time, watching mother nature, replaying that song that's stuck in my head (which is currently the spongebob jingle,oh yeah) messing with squirrels, wondering if i shouldn't be in that tree over there, wishing i'd of trimmed that branch over here, think some more. you know, the usual.
