How do you photograph a wild coyote with/without a trail cam?

There are coyote's in the field (country) and i am a wildlife photographer or atleast trying to be. Some people mentioned leaving a bait, light and a trail cam on top of the bait to capture it, but i dont really know the process of a trail cam. I prefer without and just using my camera, but some people say thats impossible. A wild coyote, i admit is very difficult to photograph let alone get close too but i am just trying to put that behind me and try to photograph one. Any suggestions?
 
Hook up with a good predator caller, would be the best bet.. Possibly with a decoy and one of the new electronic calls, might work well too.

thats what i was gonna say. other than that, find a den and set up camp
 
Right now they are very easy to call in with a predator caller as they are trying to feed their pups. They won't stick around long though once they come out so I would imagine you would have to be very well hidden, camoflauged etc..
