Huge set of antlers!!

Question for ya all? If you had the chance to purchase a set of antlers in the 180 range would you? And if so what would you do with them.
The reason I am asking is because today I was at an autobody shop and saw a set of these in this range. I looked at them and was utterly impressed with the overall mass and the droptine these things have. I didn't feel right asking the guy if he would sell them but did anyhow. He said they were his father in laws and he shot them last year. As luck would have it the owner of these called the shop while we were standing there discussing them, so the guy asked him if he would part with them. Well to make a short story shorter I am the proud owner of a $20.00 pair of 183 class massive whitetail antlers.
Now the question is, what do I do with them. Hang them with others in the old garage, mount them, sell them, what?
What would you guys do?

At first I was going to say I wouldn't pay anything for a set of antlers, but then I read you bought those things for $20. Personally I would use them for rattling. I know that's a lot of bone to saw off the brows and use them in the woods, but there's probably nothing like the deep sound they make when you clash them together. Hunting big bucks? Those would be your set. Just my thoughts.

You can make some of those deer lights. Knives thats a really good idea. I dont have a knife, but my grandpa said when we get the time well go to the place that had them, and ill get one. My uncle and my grandpa has ones ans they seem like they last forever...

If it is something you can admire, just display it among the other heads and antlers you have. Nothing wrong with buying antlers on a skull plate as long as the deer was harvested legally. (A poached rack would just piss me off everytime I looked at it)

If they are legal, Sell them on ebay, you would make alot of money.

If you had it mounted by a taxidermist you could probably triple your money that you would get for the antlers themselves. But for 20 bucks (and I assume you are a hunter) you'd get lots of looks at a set of 180 rattlers. Not many use em that big. Mine for example are about 120". Just don't leave them lying around

I agree with okla hawkeye about having them mounted. I found a matching set of shed 170+ class antlers three years ago and thought about using them for rattling in the big boys. The weight of the set together was amazing. I decided to do an area mount with a skull plate purchased from Van Dykes. Everyone who has seen them comments on the size. I have no problem telling them their sheds, or in your case that you purchased them. Buy the way, at the price you paid ($0.11 cents an inch) that was a good investment either way you look at it.

I would really like to have them mounted and hang them on my wall next to my tiny 130 class deer heads I have. Just cant imagine cutting them in half to use as rattlers though. Doublenickels, love your analogy of a good investment!!
By the way I now have pics in the gallery(I think) 1st timer on photos.

anyone thinking of hacking these apart is Insane in the Membrane.

Ok...Ok Now that I've seen a pic of the horns, I have to retract what I said about using them as rattlin antlers. ha, ha Put those babys on the wall somewhere.

Don't think I would head mount them.....they just wouldn't have any personal meaning to me. But that's just me.

But at $20 you got the bargin of the year...lord knows what I would have paid.

I would probably take then to a large industrial disc sander and straighten up the skull plate and leave them laying around the house to play with.

Ebay them if you want to make some cash, I have seen racks like that go for 300-500 bucks on there, some even more than that. I personally have a similar situation with a 166" rack that has no meaning to me, it is going on ebay one of these days, it has been sitting on my garage floor for almost a year now waiting to be sold.

Thought about eBaying them, even though they have no sentimental meaning to me I still dont know if I can part with such a nice looking rack. Plus I have already two offers on them higher than the 3-500 bucks. But at that price I would just as soon pay the 275 my taxidermist charges me and mount those bad boys!!!

Have Shovelbuck make a replica, ebay the original and buy your wife......naww....buy yourself some new hunting equipment. I still cannot believe a monster like that was sold for $20....someone had to be half crazy to let them go for that.
