Hey any advice would be great. I am hunting in Sac County on a large farm, not much cover however. I know its in Zone 2, and that is not known for great hunting. Has anyone ever hunting near there, anything I should expect?

I don't agree with crocket at all. Glad you are coming to Iowa to hunt whitetails. Hope you have a hunt of a lifetime.

As far as that zone, I don't have a clue, but I bet someone (besides whoever crocket is) will lend you a hand or give you an idea on what to expect from that area.

Hunting that open farm country is tough unless you have experience with it. The deer are there, certainly not in the numbers they are in the better parts of the state, but if you work at it you can find some good deer. It's a lot different that hunting the areas with large blocks of timber. Can you get along the river bottoms? If so, you will be in a lot better deer habitat.

Wow! We aint all like that Tannerhock, dont let those words discourage you. And I too know nothing about the area. Good luck though!

Good luck on your hunt, what towns will you be hunting near?

Thanks for the response. Not concerned about Crockett. I actually grew up in Iowa, just didn't start hunting whitetail until I moved to Texas..I am still an Iowan in my heart ;)

I will be hunting near Odebolt..on a large farm, about 4k acres. There is a river through the property.

Odebolt? You must really be in BFE because I've never even heard of that town.

There is a small river, or large creek running through the property. Thanks for the advice!

I agree, the deer are there just fewer in numbers but I'm sure there are some good bucks running around the property. Aside from the river/creek, what does the rest of the farm consist of?

I guess without knowing anything I'd look for the spot that has it all... Somewhere along the river (which I assume has some timber), adjacent to food with some good grass/bedding type cover nearby.

If you would be comfortable with it, upload an aerial map. There are guys on here (not me) that can dissect those things in a heartbeat and point you in the right direction. Good luck and welcome back to Iowa!!

Crockett,
Show some respect or your gonna find a short track out of here.

Dang! Then I'd loose all that money I paid to get in PMA!! HMMMMMMMMMMM!! Okay! I'm sorry!!! Tanner I may know a guy up around Solon/ Iowa city area!! If you can get a tag for that county ! I'm sure he will let you hunt!! Good Luck!!
