I'm looking for a little input here. What type of boot would you buy for my hunt coming up down in Iowa? I'm coming down at the end of this month for 8 days and I'm guessing the weather to be about "hopefully" highs in the 50's and lows in the lower 40's to upper 30's. I'm hoping for cooler, but I doubt that will happen. I'm going to be sitting on stand as much as my butt can take it, but have anywhere from 1/4 mile to 1 mile walks to stand sites. Should I go with a 200gr..400gr...600gr thinsulate boot???

Personally...I'm thinking that 400gr will be plenty, but just wanted your take on it.

boots thats tho boot i wear during the fall and winter season they are Saskatchewan Pac Boot 1200 insulated and all the goodies you need i love em i may sweat a bit in freezing cold and warm weather but u never get cold.... good luck in iowa...ibh
 
I personally would go with the 600 if it were me. I have both 400 and 600 and I really can't tell that much differnce in the feel of them. As long as your not going real fast and working up a hard sweat there shouldn't be that much difference. Because of this I would go with the 600 because if it is colder then you thought I would rather be warmer then colder. I hate when my toes feel like frankfurts in a freezer,I prefer them to feel like a toasty bun. Either way pick which one is most comfortable for you and get them broken in a little bit. good luck
 
If you're going to be walking in a mile, your feet might sweat in 600 gram boots ... maybe even 400 grams, depending on the temps. And you don't want damp feet when you're going be sitting all day. I'd probably go with with 400 and on warmer days, change sox once I was on the stand ... at least the heavier outer sox. (I usually wear a polypro liner sock). If it's going to be colder, a set of boot blankets in the backpack might be a good idea. But I really don't think you're going to have much problem that time of year.

An extra pair or two of socks is always in my back being that my feet sweat really no matter what is going on, so that's a for sure. It's just the sitting on stand that I was wondering about. I appreciate the info and your thoughts fellas!
 
I heard an old timer say once that you put on all the clothes you can stand to wear and walk slowly. If you start sweating your walking to fast. He was talking about still hunting but I think it also apply's hear. Buy warm boots and still hunt your way to the stand. Your toes will appreciate it after a few hours.

BTW. The 1000 gram Alfa-Burleys are a pretty well built boot in my opinion.
 
I have 3 pairs of boots I trade between. 400, 600, and 1000 grammers. With the proper socks you can get by with the 400's all year long. Get the boots a bit big in 400's and get you some wool socks in the heavyweight and medium weight varities, should do you up fine. Hopefully the temps will be lower, I know I'm praying for them to bottom out sometime around the first of next month!
 
I really like my Muck Boots! I think they have more of a shoe fit to them. They say they are good from -30 to 60!!

La-X alpha burlys come in a close 2nd!
