Said it for many years. If it's windy, get back in cover and HUNT!.
Woke up this morning to winds about 35/ 40mph.
Had deer smothering my foodplots tucked into the woods.
We have winds now about 35ish gusting too...? Maybe 50ish.
Just looked and there are 11 deer munching away.

Kinda sad when bowhunters think they have to sit on a field edge all the time and won't if it's high winds.

I've had GREAT times sitting in thick cover during high winds.
ADAPT!!, the deer do.
 
I used to hate wind for deer hunting. Now a really strong 30+ NW wind in November is the type of day I wait all year for.
 
I believe high winds cover your scent even when deer are directly down wind, it’s moving too fast. With 25 mph and up all stands are good! Not to mention you have more leeway with movement and sound.

Yep!

I dispise calm days.
Thick funnel,cover during the rut can be dynamite.
Stalking a bedded buck in crp, same.
Sadly, most younger folks and those that are youtube stars feel like an enclosed blind overlooking a green foodplot is where it's at.
I'd rather hunt a 20mph wind then dead calm any day (unless it's raining or super cold).
One benefit is how much more movement/ noise you can get away with.
 
I hear what your saying. You're not wrong.

I just won't go in the thick cover. Ever. I'll live to fight another day and deer know they are ALWAYS safe in there.
 
I’ve had more poor hunts on windy days, than good hunts. However, it seems like a cold NW wind in November gets a lot of deer on the move.

A NE wind during a storm with a little snow mixed in has been a great time to be in the stand ! I try not to miss that!

Mixed bag here. Some movement on windy days, also lots of not much.

Seems like my neighbors bottom fields are best on windy days. My ridge field is a ghost town with 20+ mph winds. Morning or evening.
 
I know it's a hard sell guys to get your mindframe right on this topic.
Just saying I've had phenomenal times hunting in super high wind days.
Just gotta get in thick cover away from any field edges/ foodplots.
Few do it because they've listened to to many people " youtubers" that primary hunt food sources/ edges.

I damn near get " wood" when a strong wind days is predicted.
Have stands set up just for those times.

What has been ingrained in our minds over the years is not really reality in the real world.
Few know what happens in thick cover (specifically on high winds) cuz very few have tried it.

If anything..., it can pin down movement even better!

You know where they "aint gonna be".


A super thick corridor between 2 bedding areas can be so fun during high wind days.
