Hunting Videos:

My nephews were up this weekend. Boys 8 yrs to 12. They had a Cabelas hunting video. Where these hunter's hands march around the screen and animals and birds pop out and you shoot them. May seem innocent enough but I got to thinking as they commented on the wildlife falling over and the air full of lead. I am thinking this is not a good thing for young boys. Taking life is not a game. I told them in the real world there are real animals, that feel pain. Hunting is not a cartoon game. My comments didn't register, I could see. This is not something I would get for my kids. I have met grown men with this attitude. I saw some on a neighbors property one day. They had been blasting at a small doe all morning. They had it trapped in brush, on my land. They asked if they could get it. The three of them proceeded to blast at it as it struggled to get away. They laughed as it struggled, and they blasted.Kinda reminded me of this as I watched my nephews. Very disturbing to me. You can say it is just a game and they are just kids. I still don't like the ,"Game".

Hope it doesen't make them have the mind set that animals are there to whack at will. Sad watching deer run into the ground with pickups & CBs . If you don't respect what your hunting just leave it alone.

Well said. Being sadistic about that doe is very sad and troubling. Very fine line between cruelty and hunting but unfortunately many don't see that and often it is those who give it a poor name. Still bothers me on some game animals that took more than one shot or were found later. I think most on this have a deep respect for the critters we chase.

There are many videos that are just as disturbing that involve people let alone animals...makes me wonder who the real "animals" are... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

I've killed plenty in my lifetime, but I still never take it lightly and it's why I hunt in the manner that I do.

Sad... sad that there are "games" like that and "adults" who act like animals...... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I'll throw this out for the discussion. I won't defend or bash any game, and if someone on here wants to that's fine, but I kind of take the it's just a game stance. Are some tasteless? Sure they are, but I think that they should be looked at as what they are: Entertainment. They shouldn't be used as a replacement for parenting, or for teaching kids valuable life lessons. If the kids aren't mature enough to play the game they shouldn't be allowed to have it.

It is a game. And the ones out there with humans wacking other humans are even worse I know. I also know it is the responsibility of adults to instruct, and that is what I tried to do with the Nephews. I hope some words stuck.

I know plenty of people that have that KILL! KILL! KILL! attitude and it pisses me off. No respect for the animal at all! Makes me sick. Unfortunately, we all get lumped into that group by the antis! Hopefully games like that promote hunting to young people.

Well I gotta side with the Lone Ranger on this, surprise surprise. I grew up back when we had violent cartoons like Roadrunner and Buggs Bunny and Mighty Mouse. Some one was always getting smashed, or blown up, or falling of a 2 mile cliff, but some how we seemed to understand all that. I haven't seen the game that started this, but I have seen some of the ultra realistic war or fight games and don't understand why a parent would buy something like that for a child.

I may catch some flak over this but let me relate an incident that happened a few years ago. A guy came into our store wanting to put up posters and cards promoting a paintball course. I told him no, because I thought it was wrong to promote this as a sporting event when we had people dying every day in Iraq and on the streets of every major metro area. He got upset and told me it was only a game. To me it is not just a game, but part of the problems we are seeing in society. When I was 10 I used to play cowboys and Indians and Combat but I knew it was just play. With the paintball, people laugh and joke about blasting another person, not an animal, and I think that is wrong! We already treat each so badly and disrespectful at times, why in the world should we have games that encourage us to kill each other, EVEN IF IT IS JUST A GAME?
