I am a little upset! Tell me what you think.

Under the post "Any youth success yet" I made several replies, one of which reference our sighting a booner and several large deer later in the day after my son’s successful morning hunt. Well somebody from this sight, I know who they are and they know me, went to the land owner complaining that I had made public the location of several booners. It really pissed me off and I'll have a hard time controlling myself and not having words with this individual. Please look at my post and let me know if any of you believe I've been too forthcoming with info on any animal’s location. I was going to write more but realize this already may be too much, just let me know if I am off base or whatever. PM me if you do want to respond here.

Thanks, we’ll call this therapy

i don't understand why a person would contact a landowner when all you said was "we saw a booner and several other large deer". you did not give away the location in any way and probably less than 1% of the people on this page even know where you hunt. there will not be any influx of people charging to this persons land because of a booner sighting. good luck with what you decide to do.

Well based on your posts Ironwood, I failed to gather the info as to where the booners were. You make no reference as to any location based on what I see. My guess, somebody wants you off the ground so they can have a chance at the bucks. Pretty shallow if you ask me. I am the kind of person that would speak my mind, just so they knew how I felt. I may be nice, I may be mean but obviously they are not a friend if they would pull that kind of stunt.

I don't see that you said anything wrong in your post and your address only only tells anybody Des Moines area.--so what!!!
I would say they were hoping to get the landowner mad at you!!! So they could get in on ground!!!
You might want to take them off your Xmas card list!!

HUNT THE WIND!!

I think that this big buck stuff is out of hand. It brings out our best and worst.

Ironwood, don't spend too much of your self toiling over it. Pray for your answer.

You had a great experience with your Son. I envy you for that, the heck with the booners.

Besides, this could be anywhere in Iowa today.

Ironwood,

Sorry this happened to you but I would encourage you to take a copy of your post and our replies to the landowner. As far as the one who did this, they know who they are and reading these replies should make them feel pretty low. It's pretty bad when competition for hunting land makes us stab our fellow hunters in the back.

Ironwood, someone must be one hell of a detective.......either that or they know more about you than you thought. That kind of stuff can sure be a buzz kill on something you have looked forward to doing this fall....I'd talk with the landowner and set them straight......for that matter show them your post....let them decide. Hang in there.

Ironwood, Don't let this take away from the hunt with your son. It's winers and gripers like this that really take the fun out of what we love. A majority of us live within 15 minutes and most closer to bucks of this caliber. Does he really think you told us something we don't already know. It's not like you even came close to telling anybody the location. Hope the land owner sees it your way. Congrats. again to your son.

Gosh, no wonder why I wasn't seeing those BOONERS, I thought windsor heights was by kinnick stadium in iowa city.I thought that was a bad place for a tree stand.
No really, show the picture of your son and how proud he is of his accomplishment to this property owner and thank him for the hunt.Tell him you would never jeopardize a privledge you have been granted, but you were just bragging upon your son's success and moment that you will always remember.

Well, situations like this just bolster my view on life: Life is like a bowl of granola - if you take out the fruits and the flakes, all you have left are the nuts. Heck, love your kids, hunt, and sleep well at night. Life's too short to let idiots slow you down.

Thanks for the support all.

BW, I need to just turn it over like you said. Thanks for helping to keep me accountable.

These posts will be viewed by the land owner.

Ironwood they want to slander your name and a wonderful experience with your son because of your success. If they want to name names bring their name out in the spotlight and post their names on this sight if they want to try to ruin you and your son's day ruin their reputation. I'm sure people on this site would love to say what they have on their minds to this person.
I understand this might bother you but please don't let it get to your son. That is all we need is to ruin the future generation of this sport because of a lowlife hunter that wants to take a special day away from a father and son.

Ironwood, you didnt do anything wrong by any means. none of us know where it is, unless they know where you hunt and apparently they did. i think the fun of hunting is sharing stories and all the memorable moments like your son shooting a great buck. when i read the post i thought awesome he got a good one, not oh my god they saw a booner. and where was it. if you cant tell people your stories and share memorable moments then why hunt. thats the fun of it, ive taped many bucks and put them on here because that is the fun of it, sharing stories. granted im not gonna tell people where they are, and you never told anybody at all. i view everyone, ( well almost everyone now) as good friends on the site. and as good friends, we would never intrude on somebody elses ground or even try to get close to something somebody has seen. its just unethical, if somebody told me they were watching a world record buck everynight, i would think awesome show me the pics, never oh well maybe i would have a better shot than he would. its just plain greedy and wrong. goodluck hunting this year guys and dont let a few bad people keep you from posting those memorable moments, because all of us ethical hunters want to see them!!!!!!

Ironwood,
First of all you just shared a great time with your SON and in no way should you let any of this take away from that!
Second I'd give up most anything if I could just go hunting with my SON so
don't let anything take away from your moment in time.

And I agree with the rest of your real hunting friends on this sight...this person is not a friend to you and most likely no one. He in my opinion is a person who is not good for this site or our sport!

Ironwood,,, It would seem you should feel flattered as this person obviously feels you and your son are a threat to their hunting.......or their access to this land....... I have to point out guys I am from WI .... and around me it is pretty much all like this .... You folks in Iowa have some of the best respect for oneanother as hunters I have ever seen in deer hunting....... You all have mine...... Here in my state hunters are bickering over everything all the time ...... fighting over deer and hunting land etc.. Pretty lame really..... I envy all of you for being above that in your great state.... But as it goes there is always 1 or 2 bad apples on every tree......

Congrats to you and your new hunting son Ironwood...... If I had land down there I'd grant permission to folks like like you in a minute

I seem to always disclose where I've located a big deer to other hunters in general conversation. Afterwords I may wish I had'nt, but I just love to talk deer to who ever is interested. If the welch in or crowd in I use it to judge their characture. The glory comes when they show up at the "deer wake" green with envy. RTN said it in one word. GREED - it's an ugly thing.

Maggs - Don't worry I won't think any less of you if your daughter kills one those monsters. I'll even help drag him out! (you shot gunning him would be a less than fitting death for such a monarch!

Oops. Forgot to reply to the topic. Ironwood, ditto what everyone else said. There will always be some people who put too much emphasis on big deer info. as a matter of "National Security". As far as I'm concerned, if a friend of mine shoots a booner I'm almost as happy as they are. Right Scout? DEER WAKE!!!! Maggs
