I am starting to feel the Pull...

This has been one long ass hot summer... Sure it's been fun and I've enjoyed the heck out of it no question.

I can look back on a cold, snow filled winters eve and fondly reflect back that I did indeed enjoyed my summer to the fullest. Got some camping in. Introduced my girls to the joys and wonders of fishing. Part took in some amazing BBQ feasts that would make a peta freak drool.

It's been great... Still some summer left including a quick 1 night steal away trip for just my lovely wife and I on Saturday to Lake Okoboji and a few days over Labor Day in Northern Minnesota for fishing, family and fun.

But I am feeling the pull of the harvest get to me.

Part farm boy, part hunter.

I am going to bed earlier, almost by accident.

I am waking up LONG before I need to be.

I am doing inventory on my outdoor supplies..

I drool over all the flyer's, magazines that come in the mail.

The protect song birds called Turtle Doves are gathering around my place and it's making me think about hunting another state just so I can have some excellent wingshooting.

And on those hint of cool, dew filled August mornings I find myself in the front driveway with my cup of coffee, looking to the east when we have a clear sky watching Orion The Hunter make his appearance once again reminding me that the seasons are indeed changing and I, as a creature of nature cannot fight it's pull.

TRUE!

I have also noticed a mild chill in the morning air, its not wishful thinking either. We are officially less then a month away from the first day of fall and in a few short days, the 30 day countdown begins....
bar none, my favorite time of year is..... well..... its here guys and it is nice to know we made it through another sweltering Iowa Summer

And for Some of us, we will be in tree stands over a week before all of you!!!

I'll be in one of my favorite whitetail stands on Sept 15th out in WY. That's only 3 weeks away!!!
Hopefully its not 90 degrees out there then.

FOR SURE...................Heck it's been almost 3 weeks since my dad and I were combining pulse crops. Now where I live 250 miles north of him, the harvest is just beginning and as usual weather is it's worst enemy. Daytime highs rarely reach 65, nightime lows in the 30's. Heck we usually have a frost by now, any day it's coming. The geese are starting to appear, feasting on cropland for the long journey which will begin any time.

It seems like not long ago I was preparing for the season last yr, each yr seems to roll by a bit faster doesn't it. After 3 weeks of 95-100 degree temps this summer I'm happy winter is sneaking up on me again. This cooler air, the leaves changing colors..
these days I am feeling very much excited and glad to be where I am in life.

We were in northern MN last weekend setting up tree stands for Bear Season Sept 1 and the high was a crisp 58 degrees, my adrenaline has been on overdrive ever since.

Like much of the Midwest.. At least this week, if we get any more rain I will be bowing hunting with a life jacket.

Farm and fleet has camo ones on sale, I made the joke to my wife(who now wants me wearing a safety belt) that maybe we should get one of those, cause this year if I fall out, I'll be going into water!!
