I Got Worms....

That is nasty. I had to laugh though because the first thing I thought of when I read the title of this thread was Lloyd Christmas driving that limo.

Nematodes, commonly known as muscle worms. This kind in deer is harmless to humans but other types are deadly. Best to cook the meat thoroughly and not think about it or as you did, knowing and seeing it was there, dispose of it. Search the internet for "deer meat worms" or "nematodes" and you can get grossed out for a long time.

Thanks 150, I did the search and found what I think was the same thing I saw in my deer....

and yes, nasty

I would have tossed the meat also. It's not worth the risk, plus the mental factor would be enough for me to not want to eat it. There's always doe tags if you need the meat.

Sounds like trichanella in pork - a nematode. But obviously not pork...

Most nematodes are parasites and can be disease-causing...you did the right thing. Best not to chance it.

That is so strange. Not to pick on you Tommy but I thought your deer looked a little funny when I looked closely at your harvest pics. Mental note: How many harvest pics have you seen where a deer's eyes are closed? Most times even after laying all night the eyes are open but dried up. Just wondering if he was swelled up in the face and puss-eyed due to an infection or something of the sort. There is no way I would eat that meat! Dog food or yote bait for sure! :way:

Actually yes... good obervation, Skully.

Both eyes were swollen with nasty puss pockets. His face was all scarred up and I just figured it was from fighting. one leg had a large hard-as-a-rock portion just above the ankle.... almost like it was broken at one time....

go figure, the only way for me to kill a 150 was for it to be a sick, blind, busted-@$$ retarded deer.... :D hahahaha I should write a book

ISHHHYYYY... I wouldnt think a second thought about pitching that meat in the brush.

I noticed the closed eyes and puffy face but assumed fighting aswell.
