I understand your point about why should we get so upset about it. I do believe however that this type of enterprise does feed the fire of the anti-hunting organizations even more. Any increase in their numbers and strength is something I do not view as a favorable by-product.

I totally agree that we as "deer hunters" should be apalled at this type of complete disrespect for both these animals and our sport. I don't care what kind of "livestock" is involved we should be outraged , not that they are selling the animal, but that they are auctioning the absolute right to kill it. If this farm were buying wild mustanges or Siberian Tigers or black bears and auctioning off the rights to shoot them in a cage we would all be outraged. Why should we show any less respect to deer, the animal we all profess to love. Please be angry! Be very very angry and let E-Bay and other places know about it.

I to totally disagree with the auctioning of deer on ebay. But what are your thoughts on hunting pheasants,that are pen raised, on a preserve. In my area in eastern Iowa, the pheasant population has been very low the past 10 years. Most times out we are lucky to see a bird let alone kill one. I take my lab to a preserve once a year to keep him in shape, and it works wonderfully. Do you think it's right to support these hunting preserves.

No. I for one have never had much respect for these bird preserves either. I've seen it first hand, where guys have to actually kick the bird to get a flush. When the birds are walking in front of you like barn yard roosters, that's not hunting! From the first day my dad took me hunting, it has always been fair chase for wild free ranging animals. I will never hunt a preserve or any pen raised animal. Now if you are just taking your dog to these preserves to work him or her to prepare for the upcoming season, that's fine. But, to actually kill a pen raised bird and to call it "hunting". I don't think so!

Bottomline, killing a tame animal of any kind in the same manner as a legitimate hunter - be it with a gun or bow - is a complete disgrace to the sport. They might as well auction off the right to shoot a cow...can you imagine how that would play out in the media??? I might feel somewhat less insulted if they were to simply auction off the antlers, and harvest the animals by traditional livestock means - because that is truly what these deer are. Seeing these rich people pose in full camo next to their slaughter, trying to pass it off as a trophy kill is downright fraud IMHO.

I couldn't resist emailing this place. I asked them what the difference between this and just shopping for venison was. Also asked them how they could call this hunting? I can't wait to see what kind of friendly response that gets. I might as well pimp my wife out and call it interpersonal relationship development for the good fo mankind! Maybe we ought to build a cage around their house and bring out the dart guns for the other group of idiot professional hunting group? Ha,Ha....

I suppose it might keep rich people from buying up land of their own, driving off resident hunters and creating deer refuges..pretty much screwing up the deer population and quality of deer for everyone else who's unlucky enough to live and hunt the area... they have a place where they can jetset in, shoot a cow and jetset back with a pack full of venison, a faux hunting experience and a huge rack for the vaulted ceiling above the pearl and gold inlaid fireplace. Might as well name it Disney's North American Safari - complete with t-shirts and commerative mugs.

Don't forget the disease risk that comes from transporting these deer from state to state. We now have CWD in many midwestern and eastern states because of this activity.
Do a search of Russ Bellar and see what we had to deal with in Indiana. Shooting drugged deer in a 6 acre pen was how some of his clients liked to "hunt." Jimmy Houston was right there (on camera and in Federal Court) smiling and enjoying himself.
