Re: I was denied a license in the draw, but what i

Well here is some logic for you all.

A group of resident deer hunters has 5 any sex tags and three nonresidents come with their 3 doe tags. The group kills 4 bucks and 4 does. How does the tag system not work. HMMMMMM!

But oh yes those pesky unethical NR's get to enter into the state again...

Be real people, this has nothing to do with ethics, just opportunity.

Re: I was denied a license in the draw, but what i

Well,.........let's say Greedy Gus decides he wants to earn a little extra money throughout the year and figures exploiting Iowa's "Big Buck" profile is the best way to do it. He leases five hundred or a thousand acres from some poor farmer in southern Iowa for 5 bucks an acre annually. So far he's got 2500 to 5000 dollars wrapped up in his plan and figures he needs to make at least 10,000 dollars to make it worth his while. He advertises his leased property and sells his "big buck" hunts for 1500 dollars apiece. He books 3 archery hunts from Non-Residents who have drawn a tag, and 5 shotgun hunts from Non-Residents who did not draw a tag, but have doe tags. Why would 5 Non-Resident shotgun hunters book a hunt for 1500 dollars to shoot a doe? They wouldn't. The outfitter has assured them that he has enough any-sex tags to allow them all to shoot a buck if they so choose. How's this possible? The outfitter has acquired 5 any-sex tags from his resident brother, mother, father, uncle, and aunt. None of these people would normally hunt, but they're helping out family, so it's worth the trouble.
This has nothing to do with opportunity, and everything to do with ethics.

That Pesky Gus is getting $2895 for a shotgun hunt!

BANG!
There, I hope that puts this thread out of its misery.

Re: I was denied a license in the draw, but what i

I was denied a license in the draw, but what I buy an antlerless only tag. Could I come to Iowa and hunt for a doe and enjoy time with my buddies and at the same time help out the land owner with his overburdening doe population which will keep him happy and then I'll have a place to hunt in the future????

Or will someone have an ethical problem with that???

Re: I was denied a license in the draw, but what i

For the record Image.....it was Greedy Gus, not Pesky Gus. Pesky might be some relation to Greedy Gus though, I'm not sure.

Re: I was denied a license in the draw, but what i

Rackaddict...I think it would be great if you got an anterless tag. Come here and have a great time with your buddies and kill you a nice eatin' doe. After all, that is what the doe tags are issued for, right? I mean, they are doe tags, not buck tags. I am guessing that the last statememnt was more sarcasm than seriousness. Your suggestion of getting a "doe tag" and shooting a "doe" does not even call your ethics into question. It is not as if you are paying around 3 g's to kill a buck while carrying a doe tag and using a tag from someone whom you don't even know that doesn't hunt but got the tag to make a little cash.

I am actually looking forward to shooting more does this year. I usually shoot a couple, but I am gonna go for 4 or 5 this year. Lifes to short to not enjoy all the flavors of the hunt.

I will be glad when the season finally gets here and we can all get back to doing what we love.

I'm just being the typical smart*** Silvertip. Just diggin' up bones from the past(i.e.Temptation tags).

I'm not sure what were gonna do this year. In the past we've bought doe tags when we haven't drawn and then also hunt in Missouri with our Iowa host. He say's he's got too many feeding on him and needs some taken off. The last time I got a doe tag I sat out for a weekend and only saw one doe in bow range and then I went and blew the shot.

Spent the rest of the time taking pics and checking trail cams but still had a great time. It is kind of fun to take pics of some potential for the next time you draw. Gives you something to look forward too. We may do the same thing this year but hopefully I won't blow my shot again.

Re: I was denied a license in the draw, but what i

Imagine this scenario:

Joe NR randomly places his finger on John Resident's name in the phone book, calls him up and says something like:
"Hey, I don't know if you hunt, hell I don't care if you hunt, but tell you what, I will pay you $XXX to hang out with me in the woods during the NR shotgun season, and let me use YOUR anysex tag..."

NOW TELL ME HOW EASY WOULD IT BE FOR EVERY NR TO GET A TAG IF THEY ARE WILLING TO SHELL OUT A LITTLE CASH TO ANY IOWAN
