I wonder if.....

Loneranger's rain guauge is full yet?

Unless a big cloud has gone over his place in the last few hours...then no, the main rains have missed him. Although it looks like a good system is approaching him now. (Fingers crossed.) I correspond with him often via email and he and I have exchanged several emails in the past 2 days and mostly, things have missed both of our places...AGAIN. It is quite uncanny how many times in the past few years that rains have skipped one, or most often, both of our places.

I am still around. A lot of kidding about my dry area but a lot of SE iowa has remained on the Drought Monitor Map for the past 2 yrs. This week was supposed to really help Dave and I down here. NWS forecast 2 days of 80% coverage of up to 2 inches. What actually happened? I to 3 inches fell from I-80 down to the north side Of Ottumwa. Oskaloosa 3 inches. I was outside watching the sky. the storms were headed right at Davis and southern Wapello CO my place. The storms stopped..Held in place. Then retreated back up to I-80. I saw this happen several times last Summer. What's up with that? There was still hope WED night. Huge area of heavy rain in SW Iowa headed east. It got to I-35. and died. SW Iowa 3 inch totals... finally late night we got a little up from MO border. .4 exactly. Whole period Tues thru Thursday my place .6. This has been it for the past 3 and a half weeks. Why this keeps up no explanation. You'd think after 2 years we'd get a break. I have a farmer friend up in Madrid. He says every year he thought I bought this land just for hunting. He says,"If I thought you were going to try to grow stuff down there I'd a told ya don't buy it, That's one of the driest parts of Iowa in the Summer." He has been farmin all his life so I guess he was right.

True,,you can always find a place drier. Hard to believe tho up in Minn. All I saw up there last month was snow storms! But guess you never know. I am thankful for anything at this point. Actually got another 10th this morn. Strange things goin on down here tho.

There is subsoil moisture, top soil is drier than heck. Dead vegetation and high winds (fire danger). We need rain!
