I've been gone for a week and have really missed out.
I'll post in this forum, instead of IBA forum.
No group or organization ever gets everything they want or need. There are some really good things in the deer legislation and some that stink. The IBA never asked for the $100 non res doe tag, that is something you will have to take up with the legislature and the DNR.
It has never been on the IBA agenda to close off the state to non res, we all have friends from out of state that want to hunt Ia.What you have to understand is,the IBA is a state group not a national group and we will continue to do what the majority of the membership want. When I get calls from the leadership of other state bowhunting groups and they tell us to fend off every attempt you can on the unlimited non res tag, they know what has happened in their own states. If every non res would trade places with someone from Ia. and be very HONEST they would soon realize we aren't the enemy we just want to keep the quality of the deer herd high and the access to land open.
I know this will really piss some people off but here it goes.Hunting is a privilge not a right,NO where have I been able to find it's your God given right to hunt every state for every big game animal every year. When I want to go out west half the time I'm in a drawing for a tag,(7 yrs for Az. elk tag and still no tag)not to mention the cost difference for res vs. non res out west.
With the explosion of the whitetail herd nationally,I find it hard to believe there aren't trophy deer in every state. If everyone would work and lobby your own DNR's for better deer management policies there would be no limit to the trophy possibilties.
It's hard to believe that the non res thinks the IBA is to blame for not enough deer tags and at the same time have some IBA members who think we sold them out and allowed too many.
The thing I will clearly state is: The IBA will continue to fight for what the majority membership desires.
I know this will fan the flames, but if an organization doesn't stand up for what the membership wants how long would they survive? Would you support a group that didn't have your best interests at heart?
I try not to take things personally and post a lot on the IBA bashing. I know this won't change anyones ideas or opinions, just trying to be honest and open.
