Idiot arrows buffalo on refuge in Iowa!

It's a complete over reaction. Deer hunting is here to stay. Hunters are an effective herd reduction tool used in many states and will not be eliminated in my, or my children's, lifetime. Those insurance companies who are being bashed on the legislative update thread are the wealthiest and most influential industry in this country, and hunters are used by them to ensure their pockets are lined. The insurance lobby would never permit the end of deer hunting. I don't believe there are many mountain lion/vehicle or bear/vehicle collisions. The van towing these deer in this incident probably held three or four hunters who all harvested deer. What are they supposed to do, drive separately? They can't place the deer inside the van. Give me a break. When I was a kid hunters normally displayed their kills because they were proud, and believe it or not most non-hunters understood that fact and didn't file a class action suit to stop deer hunting. But in today's far left liberal whack job, sombody is always offended world, we better cover our deer. Whatever.

Of course they had to get the deer home. But they didn’t have to position the deer as grotesquely as possible for the drive home. All I’m talking about is showing a little common courtesy.

Kelcher, I do agree with you to some degree about people need to start to thickening their skin a little. I think this world is getting too polticly correct to fast. (Plus on a side note, when you make the point about if people don't like what they see on TV they should turn the channel-that is so true! I work for a TV station and tons of people call on a daily basis complaining about something that we aired. I would LOVE to tell them if you don't like it turn the channel but I would undoubtably get fired.) And I have no problem with people hauling their deer in the back of their trucks with/without toppers. I hauled MANY deer in the backs of my trucks and never covered them up. If I did I would never would think I was "hiding" them. The point I was trying to make is seeing those deer laying there in their frozen positions the way they were just didn't seem like a positive image for the public to see. Just seemd to me that it would of been easy foder for the Anti's...

I agree with you Jdubs, it is an over reaction on the non-hunters part. And I believe you are absolutely correct on the deer / insurance co issue as well. For now.
But what about when they dont "need" us any longer? What if disease caused a major population crash?

A poor hunter image hurts us on many related issues like land acess, gun control, etc.
I dont hide my deer either, but I do try to make them look decent, as well as trying to put forth a good image in general.

I also understand your frustration with whiney uptight people. I am in law enforcement and we deal with a bunch of them.

Timberpig,

You make a very good point. I guess I was being a little short sighted only considering the near future and not generations ahead; which we need to consider.
