It was not a good day
First, I overslept. I woke up this morning because of a dream I was having. The dream was that someone started a joke thread on IowaWhitetail with some pictures of certain IaWhitetail members asleep in bed; one was cuddled with a teddy bear. I'll leave the names out to spare them embarrassment (I'm kind of embarrassed myself). I looked at the clock when I awoke from this nightmare and it was 6:14 am. I guess I need to get a life??? Not the end of the world, but I needed to get moving. Not sure what happened to the alarm clock, must have mugged it in my sleep.
The stand I hunt is on top of a hill. As I topped the hill and looked down the other side, I saw a coyote heading over the dam of the wetlands. I usually don't shoot yotes, but I had left my mz loaded outside all week and figured if I was going to have a misfire, might as well be on a yote. I steadied the rifle against a locust tree, aimed just over the back of the yote and shot right over him. Misjudged the range, I guess. Reloaded and climbed into my ladder stand.
Got itchy feet later in the morning and decided to take a walk. The snow was deep and had a crust over it. Tough to walk and very noisey. I basically walked the perimeter of the property, seeing very little fresh sign. Our farm is not the best cover. No timber, just some brushy waterways. I never did see a deer on our property today. I had to leave at noon to get home as we were having a pool table delivered, an early Christmas present to our boys.
Oh well, wasn't the best of day but I had fun and will be back out there tomorrow. I can't wait for late muzzleloader as I'm getting really tired of being tied to our property with the landowner shotgun license.
