where would your dream state be? I saw this thread on another forum and I thought it was intesresting. Lots of guys in eastern states wanting to move to KS or IA. I would like to go to CO, ID, NM, WY, or AK. I think it would be cool to be able to hunt other big game as a resident besides just whitetail. Elk, moose, bear, antelope, mulies, whitetails; all in the same state. How about you, where would you go, or would you stay where you are?

I wouldn't go far, just a couple hours North to the Driftless area, Eastern Allamakee county to be specific.

Whithout a doubt- Iowa. The hunting has a lot to do with that answer but even if you take the awesome hunting out of the equation I would still say Iowa. I couldn't believe how honest and nice the people are. I want to raise my kids with those same values but it is tough with so many outside influences. I wish I could get the wife to leave her mom & dad.
The big bucks you folks have is great but thats not your best asset. I hope you realize that you really have it good out there.

RBB. I don't know why you'd go there. Steep bluffs, nasty ravines, and wicked shifty winds that's ruined many a hunt. On top of that, the only thing you see up here is does. Stay in the SE young man. The deer mecca of the midwest. Just ask Jackie...

Not to mention those trout streams. NE IA is where it is at for IA IMO. Trout streams, deer, turkeys, the Miss River, and no ugly flat land like central IA.

Montana would be my choice, great elk, outstanding mulies, all the prairie goats you could want, and enough public ground where you could really get away from people if you wanted to. That is getting tough to do in CO. Before we wish away what we have in the midwest, take into consideration that in quality states with lower game numbers (Nevada, New Mexico) it is hard for even residents to get drawn. We have just as good of odds of hunting there as they do. One very good friend of mine from Albuquerque will not be hunting his own state this year, put in for some decent hunts, drew zero. That would suck. He is in one of the best states for trophy elk, mule deer, and antelope and is jealous of us. We have it pretty good right here.

Boy this topic and post hit home. I just got good news (for me) that I will be moving to probably Clayton Co and be very close to home (allamakee)

Drive to hunting land last year; 2.5 hours 1 way.
This fall 15 minutes!

Feeling: Priceless

If I could it would have to be Alaska. With bears and moose, and great fishing what more could a guy ask for.

North Central Alberta.

I have an area in mind.

A friend up there makes it seem un real as far as the game goes. Grizzly/Black Bear, Wolves, WTs, Muleys, Elk, Antelop, Walleyes, Trout, Northern Pike, Pheasants, Geese, ect... The list goes on. He can hunt any of them with in a 3.5 hour drive. He is on the edge of the mountains/bush/plains.

Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas are all good choices but I think living right next to Saskguy would be about as good as it can get for MONSTER BUCK hunting, shedding and fishing. That is if you can stand being a Canadian!

I thought of Alaska too, but spring, summer, and fall all crammed into five months and then seven months of winter would be tough.

Bowhuntr311, you just barely beat me on posting that Canada would be tough to overlook. Look, both post times were 8:08. I need to type faster.

Grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence...

I'd maybe move a mile or two into a house with a yard, then live the rest of my days in Iowa.

Northern Alberta. Possibly shoot a booner whitetail and muley every year+ elk + bear + everything else. W/ out a doubt it would be here.

I would stay in the midwest, not just for the hunting but for the people, education, and for raising a family. I will gladly spend the extra money to hunt out of state if I can spend the majority of my life in the midwest. I have spent several months working out west and east (Arizon and Maryland), and I must admit both are beautiful places, but I still remember the day I returned home from both of those trips, man I just wanted to role around in the corn fields.

Haha well said.... I love Iowa don't know if I see myself anywhere else in the future.

I really like it right where I'm at.
If I was to move though......it would be right next door to Kaare in Sas. Canada.
I'd follow that guy around like a lost pup looking for his scraps.

I'd been up there a long time ago if there was a paid fire dept in the area. I'll just have to put up with the drive until I retire.
