440 EXPLANATION
450 MARGINS L
460 This bill relates to hunting by a landowner or a family
470 member of a landowner on certain land owned by the landowner.
480 Currently, a landowner of a farm unit who is a resident of
490 Iowa or a family member of a landowner who is a resident of
500 Iowa is eligible to hunt, fish, and trap on the farm unit
510 without a license and is eligible to obtain special licenses
520 to hunt deer and wild turkey on that farm unit.
530 The bill allows any landowner or family member of a
540 landowner, even a nonresident, to hunt, fish, and trap, on the
550 farm unit without a license and to obtain special deer and
560 turkey hunting licenses for use only on the farm unit. The
570 bill also changes the definition of "owner" of a farm unit to
580 include a person who owns a farm unit and employs a farm
590 manager or third party to operate the farm unit or rents the
600 entire farm unit to a tenant who is responsible for all farm
610 operations.
620 "Farm unit" means all parcels of land which are certified
630 by the natural resource commission as being in tracts of two
640 or more contiguous acres, are operated as a unit for
650 agricultural purposes, and are under the lawful control of the
660 owner or tenant.

Between this and HF 42 FOI and Farm Bureau will get pretty much what they want. Only thing left is transferable tags and I bet we see that in a few days.

Get ready to make some noise.

I smell more unregulated outfitters and non resident leasing and purchasing of our already shrinking hunting opportunities.

I would ask that everyone please take this seriously! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

The next couple of months will likely shape the future of deer hunting in the State of Iowa for many years to come. As many of you are aware there are many organizations and companies out there that are trying to force changes in our current hunting laws that will adversely affect <u>your</u> hunting in Iowa.

You know the crap part of this is that obtaining the damn tag is the NON RES problem. Allow them to snuff up a tag for G-pa and G-ma Joe's land...doesn't necessarily mean they're going to hunt there.

This is opening the flood gates, and once they're open they'll be next to impossible to close. If these "proposed" bills are signed to law our deer hunting in Iowa won't be so GREAT...plus there will be next to no way for the DNR to regulate everything, especially with fewer officers.

WRONG MOVE. Better help get this voted down if you can.
