I planted imperial clover last spring looked great last year and this is what it looks like as of today. The plots are right in the timber. The deer love them they feel safe and it lets the big bucks feel at ease right in the timber.

Never limed it fertilized it last summer before a rain. Never touched it as of this year. We planted 4 more plots of the clover they look awesome to. One of our bigger corn plots got planted tonight two more to go.
Hope everyones food plots are doing great!

Thanks guys, I think my other three clover plots are going to look better. The oats is up to 4 in. the alfalfa and imperial clover is nice and thick and and about 2 in. tall and hardly any weeds. They need a drink though were pretty dry.

Did you use any kind of Herbicide? Does that slay from Whitetail Institute work well? That plot looks awesome.

Slay is just a very expensive version of BUTYRAC® 200 (2-4DB) and you can buy 2 1/2 gallons of it that will last far longer for only slightly more at your local co-op.

Look in both the herbicide and clover threads in Dbltree's corner for more information on clovers and herbicides.

that looks awesome shedhunter! Would you mind telling me how wide that plot is on average and if it runs north-south or whatever? I've been planting imp. clover for years in open plots. I've wanted to try to put a long skinny plot in the timber for some time, but i've worried that it wouldn't get enough sun. after seeing your pic, I'm starting to think it would be fine

Knuckledragr I think its around 8-10 ft wide and gets a little wide where I was standing and then it stops. Perfect for the 4-wheeler and pull behind lawnmower. Its about 8in. tall now and very thick. Today I put a trail camera up torwards the upper part of it. It lays on a south facing slope laying North to South. I have 3 other new clover patches that we planted in the timber and a tad bit more shade and its up and looking great!
My Dad who farms can't believe how well this plot is doing its kind of wet in that area. I'm not complaining, can't wait till this fall.
