This just came to my attention. Turns out our AG Brenna Bird has filed a brief with the Supreme Court in support of Utah's suit to remove 18.5 million acres of Federal public land and transfer ownership to the state.

I'm disappointed and I'm letting her know. You can do so here if you care to. comment@ag.iowa.gov

I will pull this up on my reading list. I’ve heard some snippets on this but want to dig in to fully understand it….. I suspect it is what I think it is.

Here is a podcast on it if you want to nerd out with some fellas in the know. Good listen.

I can’t see where it would have anything to do with Iowa. Is there any Federal ground at all in this state. Seems like she might have a personal interest somehow. If so, use her own dime and time to address it.

If the state were to manage it for the public, and could guarantee it never went private, I don’t see an issue. When part of their argument is that they need the tax revenue, I wouldn’t trust them.

There is quite a bit of federal ground along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers owned by the Army corps of engineers that is managed in partnership with DNR. While it wouldn't affect Iowa like it would Utah, it's a bad precedence to set IMO.

You are correct Cotton, I wasn’t thinking of Desoto or the different refuges and impoundments. I was thinking more like BLM ground. Agreed, it would be a bad precedent.

A huge chunk of public ground in Iowa is owned by the Corps of Engineers, a federal entity. Saylirville, Red Rock, and Rathbun would fall under this.
