Not deer related but I know we have some bird hunters on here as well.A new dog training group is starting up in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. It is called the Iowa Bird Hunters Association. We will be holding our first "fun trial" sometime in April which will give dog owners an opportunity to compete with their dogs in a low pressure, low competition environment.

The focus of the association will be to have 2 training days a month, 2 fun trials a year, and 2 NSTRA sanctioned events a year.

The training days are to be a very open training environment. All breeds and all training styles are accepted. The association will provide birds for purchase, equipment such as remote launchers, a place to train, and expert advise from 2 professional trainers.

The 2 fun trials will be competitions with prizes, but will not be highly competitive or highly scrutinized competition. These will be open to the public. Membership in the IBHA is encouraged, but not required. The idea is to give the average dog owner an opportunity to get a taste of what trial competitions is like without the expense or stress.

The NSTRA competitions will be available for those who would like to pursue a higher level of competition. It is not expected that every member will want to compete in NSTRA events, with that in mind all dog owners are welcome to join the group for the training days or fun trials.
