Iowa Bow Zone

I have been looking at buying land in southern Iowa for a couple years - what I would like to do is buy into an area that is just bow hunted "A Iowa Bow Zone". Nothing against gun hunters - I have been bow hunting for 33 years and it has changed me - I just cannot shoot a deer with a gun any more.

So what I would just love - is to buy land that is in an area with fellow archers/bow hunters that are like minded.

Does anyone know of an area that is only bow hunted in southern Iowa?

If I can not find an area like this to buy into my plan is to try and create this area - by buying up land and promoting the bow zone concept - and then I will be looking to others that would want to buy into it.

Any interested bow hunters out there?

There isint to many places that aren't gun hunted in Iowa. There is also land that people don't let deer drives go through. But I don't think there is land that isint gun hunted.

yeah i dont think there is an actual zone that doesnt allow gun hunting but im sure theres alot of contiguous tracks of land that dont allow deer drives, but will still have people stand hunting or still hunting with a gun.

Thanks for your imput beararchery - what you wrote about areas that don't allow drives to go through - that's what I would want to set up - I know from talking with people that say when you try to stop drives from going through that people from the area will hate you for wanting that - because drives are part of the Iowa gun hunting culture. I would like to talk with land owners that have been able to stop the drives to see the best way to do it and keep the peace.

You could have 1000 acers and all the private land you want down there. you will have gun hunters on it. because there are just some people that say "ive hunted here for 30 years and im not going to stop." I gun hunt and bow hunt in southern iowa. you just cant get away from the family tradition, and it is a tradition for most of the hunters out there. Alot of us it was the first thing we did after shooting a rabbit. And if everybody is safe and know whats going on there is nothing wrong with the shotgun seasons. We have a big group and most of us have been doing it as long as I can remember. Sorry to get off topic, I just hate getting thrown in "that group of gun hunters" like its a bad thing. Hope you find a great spot to buy.

Yea,, I would love to own enough land to just have a bow hunt paradise. Got lots a money? Like the ranches you see on the hunt shows. I am happy that there are quite a few trophy type bow hunters around me, but there are also plenty of guns, on some of the properties.,in my part of southern Iowa.

How many acres, how much $$? There is a WRP parcel for sale that is partially in city limits and is bow only...asking around $1000 an acre, but this is permanent easement no future income, except some timber value
