Iowa City Bans BB, Airsoft Carry
Cedar Rapids, Iowa is tightening enforcement on BB guns, airsoft guns and pellet guns since a string of crimes ranging from criminal mischief to assault have resulted from their use.
The city council has made it a misdemeanor to carry a loaded BB, airsoft or pellet gun within city limits.
"It makes no sense for anybody to be carrying one of things out in public, unless you're going to the range to do some shooting," Police Capt. Bernie Walther said. "That's all there is to it."
Over the past six years, $1.4 million in damage has been done to car windows from metal pellets and BBs.
The penalty for carrying a loaded gun of any type, including toy guns, within Cedar Rapids city limits is $625 in fines and up to 30 days in county jail.
