Hey now, I've never called anybody a 'dirty deer farmer'...

Fair enough ...but I do have one more offense to confess...I am getting ready to put up several more wood duck houses soon AND I will also be polluting some of the neighbors with these "duck farms" as I am also making some extras for my neighbors to put up too. I sure hope that whatever kid shoots a wood duck or two this fall will be OK with them having been "farmed".

Fair points on all sides. I want to throw out a little deeper point..... “hunting like in Europe” or “hunting like in AFRICA”.... most would likely call Africa “rich man’s hunting”. Whether yes or no- let’s sideline that. The hunting in Africa is responsible for millions of acres conserved and countless species saved from endangered status. The conservation benefits of hunters anywhere is astounding. “Hunters buying big farms” - whether anyone likes it or not.... is probably the best thing for CONSERVATION. Segmenting & Breaking up farms long term is likely the worst thing for conservation. I know this is different from the “hunting opportunity” part of of this debate- fair enough. But- keep that little thought in ur head about what impacts hunters & large landowners have on conservation vs if a non hunter owned things and over generations it was developed or only looked at for profits. Hunters have done a lot of good for conservation across the planet.

Most of the trees, ponds cost etc... were paid for by CRP, RIM, wetland restoration and USFW.

So I can get my sponsors to fund my private deer farm or the government programs via tax payer dollars.

All I can add is that if someone buys 20 acres they can look into CRP at the taxpayer's expense (or choose not to), inviting kids to hunt (or choose not to), call for coyotes day and night (or not), etc etc. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Be your own boss. All the guys who like throwing around words like "horn excitement" seem like the same guys who may weasel into a farm for hunting and that's it.

I’m not feeling bad at all about using CRP or government dollars to develop wildlife habitat... not one bit. I pay PLENTY in taxes for worthless programs.

The ponds, dams were paid for by USFW, which is funded by duck stamp $$ from hunters.

CRP is used throughout the continent for conservation. What better program is out there for habitat, soil erosion, and cleaner water?

I kick a lot of my own money to plant additional trees, mow tree rows, cages, tubes, prescribed burns, etc.. etc.,

If tax dollars pay for habitat improvement on private property, those improvements should be accessible to the public. (Example: If tax dollars pay for a pond to be constructed or fixed on your private property, then the general tax paying public should have free access to fish and swim in it, etc.) If you don't want to give the public access to your private property, then refuse tax dollars and solely pay for it out of your own pocket.

Here we go.....again. This argument has been online 1000 times. First off, if the programs are open to the public, then it becomes impossible to manage and private landowners will not even participate. Liability would be through the roof (I know because I sell insurance). Premiums would be much higher if you open it to the public--for those that specify to their agent or company, the correct # of people that use the property.

There is walk in areas that landowners take advantage of this, and will be paid to open their land to public use.

This is a good program for hunters and wildlife enthusiasts! If it goes away the $$ will be directed to welfare, section 8 housing/free rent for low income individuals (ever seen a house after these people move out--quite often the place is trashed!!) Let's fight for programs that are helpful to hunters!

If you think the government will save money if they eliminate this program, nope, it will just be shifted to welfare, a solar project, an Obama phone, or something that will not help hunters.

Tax deductions and incentives are different than tax dollars paying for something, but I get what you're trying to say.
