Does anybody know much about an organization called Iowa Heritage Foundation. This organization purchased a substantial piece of property today in Iowa at an auction that I attended. I would be interested in obtaining a website address if one exists.
It is an organization that provides $$$ or tax breaks in return they buy the rights that your property can never be developed into housing, etc. You still own the land and can farm it etc, but it can never be developed.
I think they are a good group if you want to help protect Iowa's natural heritage. I've supported them and been a member for years. Here is the website, http://www.inhf.org/
I know they bought some land here in Muscatine county a couple of years ago. At least 1000 acres or so. It was river bottom land that couldn't be farmed due to flooding most every year. Not much use to the farmers, and they made a healthy profit from it. The only problem was it was land that only i had permission to hunt. After that the public hunting signs went up. Trash and beercans could be found all over the property. It all went to hell and the hunting suffered.
There are at least three spots around the Muscatine area that they have. possibly a spot or two in Louisa county as well. They put up nice BIG signs! All are prime areas for deer and turkey.
