SOLDIER KILLED: An Iowa soldier in the U.S. Army died Saturday while serving in Afghanistan
A Coon Rapids family is mourning the loss of their son who was killed serving overseas this weekend.
Twenty-six-year-old Shawn Muhr was a 2003 graduate of Coon Rapids-Bayard High School. Right after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. This past fall he began his first tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Officials say he was killed by an improvised explosive device Saturday.
Muhr's former high school wrestling coach Kirk Davis says he'll be greatly missed, "Just a super pleasant kid to be around and I always remember he had a great smile all the time."
Funeral arrangements for Muhr are still pending.
My thoughts go out to the family of this Fallen Hero.
When are we going to end this military nonsense?
