Well, the youth season is right around the corner with Saturday morning being the opener.

I will be taking my 12 year old daughter and I think I am more excited than I am for my own bow season to open.

It seems like yesterday I was changing her crappy pants and now she will be packing her gun on her first hunt.
They grow up way too fast.

I really hope I have some pictures to share on Monday!!!

Good luck to the rest of you guys taking your kids hunting this weekend!

I am with you on the Same track. My son turns thirteen on Fri. and we will be hunting Sat A.M. He's packing his new CVA Bolt action in .45 cal and is a real good shot. He has already killed 2 does and a 6 point buck the last 3 years and says he will only shoot a buck if it's big enough. I'm very excited also and hope to have some pic's to show next week. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE YOUTH HUNTERS OUT THERE!!

I will have one of my nephews out and his dad will be with his other boy this weekend. It is very fun to have the young hunters out there and with Curly getting to old I was more than happy to volunteer to help my brother out.

Good luck to all of the youth hunters this weekend. I hope everybody has a blast.

My oldest boy Zack turns 7 in March. I plan on taking him in the blind with me a few times this fall. May let him try to blast one next year. Good luck and stay safe everyone! PICS,PICS,PICS, take lots of pics!!

Can my 10 year old hunt the early season? He's got one year until he will be ready to go with his bow, but I was curious about the early gun season.
Thanks.
P.S.
I won't be taking him this year as he hasn't practiced with his gun, but next year might be fun. I was under the impression he had to wait until he was 12 to do the early gun season.

Yes, he has to wait until he has passed hunter safety. The certificate is not valid until his 12th birthday. My daughter took the course when she was 11 but you have to be 12 at the time of tag purchase.

I have a 10 year old son who will hunting with me during the regular gun season. Kind of a silly regulation if you ask me.....

Thanks. He goes with me for bow and gun every year, and will be ready to bowhunt next season, but wondered about his early tag.

Goog Luck to all our young hunters, I still have 3 more years to wait before mine are old enough. I know the feeling Ghost.

I'm not going out this weekend but will the next two. Just put a Red Dot scope on the 20 guage. My 13 year old daughter has blood in her eyes and is ready for anything brown. Never thought I would enjoy youth season more than when I hunt by myself.

Here is our set-up.....

GUN
Remington 870 youth model, black synthetic, 20 gauge, rifled barrel, B-square mount and rings, Nikon Prostaff 2 x 7 32mm scope, Remington 5/8 oz. copper solid sabot slugs.

Sets
Double Bull blind brushed in on a bean field. Set up a month ago.

15 foot Buddie ladder stand in mature White Oak timber.

I have the same gun and bullet for my daughter except for I have a red dot scope. We upgraded from a double bull blind to the redneck creep feeder I posted a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait to see the pictures on Monday.

Good Luck!!!

Sounds like a killer set up Ghost. Wish you much luck! I was told by someone that your child didn't need the hunters safety course to hunt on your own land. No age limit. Anyone know for sure?

Skully, it really doesn't matter if you hunt your own land or not. Any age child can have their own tag and hunt with you during the regular seasons.

Youth season is only for ages 12 - 15 and they have to have passed the hunter safety course.

I wish it were different, if it was, my 10 year old son would be on deck for sure. Instead, he has to wait for the regular gun season.

Best of luck to you guys. That sounds really fun. Taking my 10 year old is the funnest part of bow season for me. Two years from now we will be heading out for the youth opener. What an exciting time for these kids. (I should also include the parents or adults taking them too!)

My kids are still underage and interest most of the time but there will be two of the neighbor's kids and another friend hosted between us. Saturday evening is the plan.
