Is using Deer carcasses to bait coyotes legal in Iowa?

Just wondering if using deer carcasses to bait coyotes is legal in Iowa

I was told it's illegal by a CO. Baiting coyotes with a food source is apparently illegal.

I can't find anything in the regulations about not baiting any game other than deer and turkey. I would say this falls in one of those gray areas that may depend on your CO.

I would have to say no, because the deer carcass is supposed to go to the landfill

You have to set traps a certain distance from it to avoid catching soaring birds.

Was not planning on trapping them just sitting and shooting them.

Deer carcasses can be disposed of back in the field (NOT in a road ditch). It's hard to imagine a CO who didn't have anything better to do than prosecute someone for shooting coyotes over a pile of deer bones??? But, there is always a few who really gets off on wearing their badge... Might be worth a call to the state office.

we don't have critters visiting our landfills that can eat you.
