This is my best Pa buck to date, grossed 127 5/8, too bad he broke off both brows or he would have been mid 130's. We aged him at the taxidermist at 4 1/2, just goes to show you the differences in a north east buck and a mid west buck the same age.
Been really slow here all season, have not seen a buck since the September 29th opener and I was really getting disappointed with only a week left. Even the does were a rare sight so I didn't know what to think, I had picks of a couple decent buck including this one but they never showed themselves durning day time.
My son went out Monday morning and rattled in 4 buck but blew an opportunity. He told me when I got home from work that the game was on and I should hunt an old hickory tree in a small funnel near where he seen buck that morning. I hunted that stand a couple previous occasions but never saw a deer but he encouragwed me to go there. I am really glad I did!
Time was slipping with no deer and only about 10 minutes of leagal hunting time left. I was just about to reach for my bow rope when I caught a glimpse of a tine in the brush moving so I hooked up and waited. When this guy came to within 24 yards and turned broadside I was at full draw but struggled to fing my pins, thought I had it on him but shot under him. He only took a couple quick steps and then continued slowly walking past me at 20 yards. Let another one rip and the same thing happened! Now he's behind some limbs and walking away, I only had one arrow left and quickly turned around and really focused on my now 30 yard pin. Grit my teeth and let her rip which was quickly that sound we all want to hear, a thud folowed with a heart kick. He only ran 40 yards and stopped with his tail flickering, turned, layed down, stretched out and his head went over. What and great feeling to see him go down in sight!
I'm one blessed hunter and will carry more arrows next time!
