Journey app rate?

I am seeding a plot this early spring with WSG that will contain a mix containing 2 lbs per ac. of switchgrass. From what I have read you can apply a light application of Journey. Someone told me I could apply 11 oz per acre with little affect on the switch grass and still get some weed control. Does that sound right?
Thanks in advance for your advise as I am new to WSG

Normal rates for good weed control is 32 ounces per acre but lower rates will not affect switchgrass to badly.

Journey Herbicide Label

Of course your going to give up weed control at lower rates, so I often request that the switchgrass seed be kept seperate of the rest of the mix.

I then wait and frost seed the switchgrass the following winter. This allows me to use higher effective rates of Journey or Plateau on my NWSG mix and not kill the switch seedlings. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Thanx dbltree for the response. The person I have doing the no till seeding this spring is not in favor of adding the switch later as he claims the switch has to much competion the following spring. Just wish I could have both, a heavy spraying and switch seeding, not always that lucky!!
dbltree if I have weed problems this summer, besides mowing high can a herbecide be applied then?
Thanx, mercer

I would disagree with your firend because the other natives are clumpy in nature and will not have matured and filled in yet....I know because I have done it successfully... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

The only herbicide you can use is 2-4D after plants have 3-4 leaves and it will kill broadleaves only, however if you have added wildflowers and other forbs, then even that option is out.

Just monitor weed growth and clip them 8-12" high if they get to a problem and you'll be fine. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
