Just a thought on antlerless tags.

I usually buy a couple of antlerless tags each year for bow. A friend of mine just recently moved near Lone Tree and aquired some hunting ground and invited me down. I was thinking it sure would be nice if your first antlerless tag you buy would be statewide rather than county specific. I just would hate to buy a tag for that county to hunt only a few times and maybe not take a deer, in a sense taking an antlerless tag away from a local hunter. What do you all think?

i would just go there for the first hunt and see whats there.... if you see alot of good bucks then dont worry about a doe tag, but if you go there and see alot of does and nothin special in the bucks then get a doe tag for the next time. you cant worry about taking tags from anyone else, everyone knows how many tags that are available so if they want one theyll get it beofre there gone so that shouldnt be an issue.... it comes down to whats there and what makes you happy

With the amount of money you will be spending on gas to get there I wouldn't be worried about eating a doe tag. Buy the tag and help him with doe management if you get the chance. Many counties don't sell out of antlerless tags anyway.

I have bought tags many times for one night hunts in counties I would never be back to. Mines well buy one

A statewide antlerless would defeat the purpose of the tags.

they are to add extra doe harvest in counties that need it, not all need massive extra harvest or even any at all.

Besides, it's $12 and if you're going even once you expect some chance to fill it right?

Johnson county will have 2000 tags, so no shortage.

Good points all. I wasn't so much worried about the cost of the tag as feeling guilty about taking a tag for another county that I may not fill, but then again, I guess that may happen with local hunters there anyway. I was unaware of what the quotas were so thanks for that info.
