Well finally completed the Iowa & Kansas Big Buck
Slam. Shot this one last night at 4:55pm. He was
with 2 does when I first saw him. I grunted a couple
of times to get his attention but he never came in.
Then I thought I'll do the Buck Growl with my new
Primos call I bought before I went to Kansas. I
growled and made a couple of grunts and the does came
running in with the buck behind. I was not in
position to shoot were I thought they may come, so I
had to step down a step on my ladder stand. Well the
does picked my off and ran back across the fence but
the buck just stood there. A couple of tense moments
passed were I was doing the Jackie Chan in the tree
trying to get situated. The buck finally looked away
so I could get my leg down from the top step. I then
grabbed my bow clipped my release on and was ready.
He stood there which seemed like forever so I made one
last soft grunt, which started him my way. I knew he
was committed know so I drew my bow and held it until
he came around a group of trees. I thought it's know
or never so I let her rip! I could see the "mystical
flight of the arrow" Ted Nuggent, all the way and
thought I hit him right in the boiler room but he
dropped right in his tracks. I was pumped, no
(Swedish Tracking)on this buck, he was down. I made a
few calls from the stand because I needed some
council, but after 30 min he still was not totally
gone. I got down and put another arrow in him and
that did it. My buddy Chris and his son Sam came to
help me field dress it and take some pictures. Chris
shot a decent 8 Sunday night but the old Swedish
Tracker 2 found him in 20 minutes Monday morning. I
hope you enjoyed the story! I may never get another
chance to harvest 2 mature Whitetails in one year.
