Kansas whitetail problem

I just read in the Iowa hunting regulations that it is prohibited to bring a deer carcass into Iowa from any states that are on the CWD list of identified states... these include: Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.. also Saskatchewan & Alberta, Canada.

It goes on to state... " If you take a deer, elk, moose or caribou in a CWD area, you may bring back only boned out meat, skin (cape) and antlers. Antlers may be attached only to a clean skull plate from which all brain and connective tissue has been removed.

I am all for taking precautions, but what a hassle.

I will be hunting Anderson county Kansas the week before Thanksgiving. Does Kansas have a program similar to Iowa where a hunter can donate harvested deer to go to a food bank.

Should I get a nice buck, I want to be prepared. Does anyone know a good taxidermist that is in that region that one could pay to cape out the deer?

I hope to have a freezer full of doe meat by this time in the season, so I really will not know what to do with the meat.

Any thoughts on this or suggestions

Cornfed- Not sure where Anderson Cty. is and I'm not sure about a KS donation program, but if you kill a good one, I do have a very good and very inexpensive taxidermist here in Topeka, and someone who would love the meat. So let me know if you're interested and I'll get you some details.

After some extensive online searching it does appear that Kansas participates in the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry program (FHFH).. and there are lockers around the state that participate. Also a few relatively close to where I will be hunting.

Thanks for the offer... but it appears that Topeka is around 150 miles Northwest of the area I will be hunting.

Cornfed, you might want to read the IA regs again. It doesn't say you can't bring a deer back into IA from all of those states listed. Just that those listed states have CWD "areas" within them. As long as you don't hunt in one of these "areas" you can bring the deer back whole.
