We hit the public ground this morning, 10/03/10. I've been trying to teach my son how to still hunt. We made it up the hill through the woods & into the milo on the hill top. About 1/2 way through I see a little buck coming out of the trees about 40 yds ahead. He's coming right to us at an angle. Hunter waited for him to turn broadside & let the 50 cal roar. The buck turned & ran for the trees across a green grass field. We looked for blood & only found some brown hair. I was worried that it might be a long day. We waited about 1/2 hour before going over to the trees. Hunter found some bright red blood w/ bubbles on the tall weeds at the tree line. I was relieved he found a blood trail & it was a good one. Down the hillside, under some trees, across a ravine & under some more trees he found his 1st deer. I gotta tell ya, he was so happy & so was I
