I am leaving an area next to this unburnt. Compare in year
Burned NOW, BECAUSE: warm seasons were not up. Cool seasons get pounded back. Too early promotes cool seasons. I still feel MY AREA was ok for nesting reasons!!!!!

yup, later the better for native grasses. I tell people in a perfect world burn the last day before official nesting season.

Burn natives well into May.

Timber burns are a different story. April 1 is the ideal date to wipe out trash trees.

dang, I've been burning my fields too early it appears.....I'm usually a slave to my/kids schedule and am burning in March (spring break) or early April before baseball weekends kick in

We haven't been able to burn as much as we'd like in the last several years and the fescue has made a come back. We waited until this past weekend, let the fescue green up then smoked it. A nice slow rollin boring burn, perfect. When the fire breaks are done right, it really makes it pretty simple. Thankfully we didn't see any nests, just a few snakes.

Love seeing burns into green grass. That's when you know you're really setting it back. Well done.

Do them with Rob!!!!! ;). He knows knows the rope on that stuff for sure.

Love the night burn pics. We started burning switch one day and it carried on past dark. It was almost daylight like, then the fire finished rapidly and we were plunged into blackness.
